HONEST CONVOS: HAIR LOSS

People experience hair thinning and loss for a variety of reasons: age, hormonal imbalances, genetics, childbirth, stress, disease, medication, skin disorders, friction—even repetitive wear of hairstyles that are too tight (think: everyday ponytails).

And, as Becker knows, this loss can negatively impact confidence—but, not to worry: This National Hair Loss Awareness Month, we’re going to get honest about what we can do to help you, Becker Babes, and that starts with the tips on how to care for and style your hair.

TIP #1: KEEP YOUR SCALP STIMULATED

We’ve talked about this before: Happy scalp = happy hair. Hair grows from the follicles on your scalp, so it only makes sense that a healthy scalp environment would produce healthy hair growth. An easy assist you can do: Massage your scalp to stimulate blood flow to the follicles, which feeds them nutrients to help with health.

DO: Before you shampoo, massage BE CHIC Hair Oil into the scalp to stimulate blood flow and deliver nourishing ingredients to follicles, such as sesame oil, a natural anti-inflammatory agent.

DON’T: Forget to wash out Hair Oil! Make sure to thoroughly shampoo so the scalp is left clean.

TIP #2: KEEP YOUR SCALP CLEAN

You want to keep your scalp clear of extra product buildup, debris, dirt, pollution, and excess oil as these can all clog the hair follicles that produce your hair. Once again, concentrate massaging shampoo into the scalp, which will stimulate blood flow to the follicles, rather than the hair lengths.

DO: Shampoo with a gentle, nourishing formula like BE CHIC Signature Shampoo, that feeds follicles with superfood hydrolyzed quinoa and gently cleanses away excess oils.

DON’T: Over-shampoo and strip away good, natural hair oils as this can cause hair to become dry and brittle which can lead to scalp issues.

TIP #3: CONDITION LIGHTLY

First off, always use a conditioner post-shampoo; the protection against static electricity alone is worthwhile for anyone suffering with decreased hair. Second, make sure to keep the bulk of your conditioner application concentrated at the ends so that roots can stay buoyant for more visual volume.

DO: Choose a lightweight conditioner, like BE CHIC Signature Conditioner, that contains ingredients like marshmallow root to lock in hydration while keeping out frizz.

DON’T: Forget to completely rinse conditioner so that hair isn’t limp.

TIP #4: STYLE SMARTER

How you style your hair can cause premature hair loss or exacerbate hair thinning issues. These do’s and don’ts will help you decrease unnecessary fallout.

DO: Allow your hair to air-dry (if you have the time).

DON’T: Brush your hair when wet—unless you have textured hair.

DO: Brush less. Excessive brushing causes breakage.

DON’T: Use the highest heat setting. There’s simply no reason for non-pros!

DO: Give your hair a break from braids, ponytails and buns. Elastics can cause breakage and too-tight styles can create tension that can lead to permanent hair loss.

DOUBLE DO: Use a styler, like NEW BE CHIC Everyday Spray, that not only builds visual volume and texture without the need for heat, but also promotes a healthy scalp to help with healthy hair growth
